Himachal Avalanche: Fourth Jawan’s Body Found, Two Others Missing

Bodies of four of the six missing have been recovered by the army personnel so far.

The Indian Army has retrieved the body of another jawan trapped in an avalanche site in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district on Saturday, 9 March, on the 18th day of search operations, reported ANI.

Six troopers of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles were buried under an avalanche that struck on 20 February, near the Tibet border in the the state's Kinnaur district. Bodies of four of the six missing have been recovered by the army personnel till now.

The first body was recovered on 2 March, according to ANI.

Over 500 personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) and DRDO have been pressured into service to locate the missing army men.

According to army sources, 16 jawans had gone towards the Shipki La border post from Namagya in order to repair a damaged water supply line when the avalanche struck, burying six of them alive. One of them was rescued, but he succumbed to his injuries subsequently.
