A professor of mathematics at a women’s college in Karnal, Haryana, has become famous for his ‘love formulae’ after a video of him teaching equations to a class went viral on social media.
A student recorded the lecture and later showed to the principal after which Charan Singh, the professor, submitted a written apology and was subsequently suspended, reported NDTV.
The professor was reportedly on special deputation at the government women’s college for six months.
In the video, the professor can be seen writing three formulae: “closeness – attraction = friendship”, “closeness + attraction = romantic love” and “attraction – closeness = crush”. Students can be heard laughing and responding to the professor’s ‘lecture’ with a ‘yes’.
Explaining the first formula, where there is closeness but no attraction, Singh likens the relationship to that between an aging couple where he claims the lack of closeness eventually results in the couple being more like friends, after so many years of togetherness.
In the nearly 3-minute video, he also says that in romantic love, if there is no closeness, then the marriage or romantic love relationship becomes fragile.
Girls can be heard tittering and answering Singh’s seriously posed questions.
