As part of the syllabus, students will be taught about the origins of hip-hop which was used as a tool to speak out against oppression, violence, identity, culture and so on. The course will explore the political and racial aspects of the art form and include a study of women in hip-hop. Students will be required to submit a thesis on a subject associated with hip-hop and appear for a written exam in order to successfully complete the course.
