DU Isn’t the Only Option For the City’s Undergraduate Aspirants
Delhi University isn’t the be all and end all of good academics; there are other universities in Delhi NCR too.
“Correction” is a common term in stock market parlance. It essentially means bringing down the inflated price of a stock, bond, or commodity, to adjust for an over-valuation.
The cut-offs for Delhi University (DU) are overvalued, by all realistic estimates. But life doesn’t end at DU. This isn’t a consoling message for those who are finding it tough to get into the university. This is for all those ninjas who will manage to shine wherever they go.
A number of universities in Delhi NCR offer a wide range of good undergraduate courses.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University
IP University — students of this university are usually confused with the eponymous women’s college — has over 20 undergraduate courses to choose from. Courses like engineering, business administration, and business studies are a springboard for a variety of corporate jobs. A LinkedIn alumni chart of 40,000+ alumni shows that many students go in fields like marketing, engineering, etc. working for firms like TCS, Infosys, Accenture, HCL, IBM, and Ericsson.
Jawaharlal Nehru University
While most of its courses are for the postgraduate and doctoral level, the prestigious university offers language courses for undergraduates.
This lesser known university offers sought after courses like BA Honours with majors in Economics, English, History, Mathematics, Psychology, Sociology, etc. The university is know for its liberal outlook, and its undergraduate courses have a common module with foundational skills comprising language, communication skills, analytical reasoning, and a core module in social sciences.
Jamia Milia Islamia
Jamia Millia Islamia has around 56 undergraduate courses with over 3000 seats. It has courses in engineering, architecture, hotel management, psychology, and media.
Shiv Nadar University
This relatively new university is multi-disciplinary in its approach, which means that if you are pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mathematics, you can also do a minor in Economics or Finance.
Apart from the major subjects, a student is also required to do certain courses as part of its core common curriculum in categories like Indian History and Society, World History and Society, Culture and Communication, and Empirical Reasoning and Analysis.
Though placement figures aren’t readily available, students from the university have been accepted in Masters of Science programs in US universities like Arizona State University, University of Ontario, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Delhi University isn’t really the be all and end all of good academics. It is important to remember that wherever you are, at the end of the day, it is your convictions and good work that will actually matter.
