Detained Pigeon ‘Accused’ of Spying Handed Over to Bird Lover

The ‘suspect’ pigeon that had flown into India from Pakistan has been handed over to a bird lover in Pathankot

Nearly nine days after it was spotted, caught and handed over to the local police, the white coloured ‘spy’ pigeon which bore the Pakistani seal and Tehsil Shakargarh, district Narowal stamped on it in Urdu has been handed over to a bird lover in Pathankot, Punjab.

The bird was spotted and caught by Ramesh Kumar from his house at Manwal village at the Indo-Pak border. Because of the Pakistani markings, Ramesh took the bird to the Bamial police station where it was kept in custody.

Ramanjit Singh is the owner of a facility which takes care of birds and pets said SSP Pathankot, Rakesh Kaushal.

The white female pigeon has been kept in the company of a male pigeon here, Ramanjit Singh told reporters. He added that that he feeds the birds with wheat, lentils, pigeon peas and black grams. The birds also receive medical examination.
