A day after the image of a woman constable working with her infant daughter sleeping next to her went viral, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash Singh on Sunday, 28 October, confirmed her transfer to Agra, her native district.

Singh also asked his department to explore the possibility of setting up crèches at every police line of the state, Times of India reported.

The picture of 30-year-old Constable Archana Jayant Singh discharging her duty at Jhansi City kotwali with her six-month-old daughter lying by her side has been doing the rounds on social media.

DGP Om Prakash Singh also took to Twitter to praise the woman’s dedication.

Referring to Archana as a “quintessential 21st century woman”, he said that her experience had inspired the state police to explore the possibility of having a creche at every police line.

Archana has been posted in Jhansi since 2016. Her elder daughter stays with her in-laws in Kanpur, The Indian Express reported.

“I spoke to the Inspector General (IG) Jhansi, who has rewarded the constable with Rs 1,000 in cash. Despite the fact that she has a newborn, she did not take childcare leave and instead, opted to go to duty,” DGP Singh told The Indian Express.

According to the report, Archana hasn’t met her parents and husband in a long time and now she will celebrate Diwali with them.

Her elder daughter is studying in Class 4 in Kanpur and lives with her grandparents while her husband Neelesh works with a private firm in Gurgaon, Times of India reported.
