1. CBI Busts Child Porn Racket; 20-Year-Old Arrested From UP

The CBI on Thursday, 22 February, claimed to have busted an international child abuse pornography racket operating on a WhatsApp group and arrested its alleged administrator – an unemployed youth from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh.

After registering a case of alleged violation of Information Technology Act, the CBI carried out searches at five locations in Delhi, Mumbai and Noida and Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

Nikhil Verma, son of small worker at a jeweller, who is pursuing his graduation in commerce and is currently unemployed was arrested.

The members of the group spread globally including the US, China, New Zealand, Mexico, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Brazil, Kenya, Nigeria and Sri Lanka among others, the officials said.

2. Man’s Body Rots in Tunnel of Delhi Metro

A man’s decomposed body was found inside a highly protected tunnel of the Delhi Metro’s airport line between the New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium stations, bringing to light a possible security breach.

Police said it appeared the body had been there for at least four-five months as it was reduced to bones, but they could not explain how it might have got there or the possible cause of death.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) staff noticed the body in the early hours of 9 February, police said.

“We have preserved the DNA samples and are checking if anyone from the area near the New Delhi station is missing. Once the body is identified, the cause of death can be established,” said a police officer.

3. Bengaluru Man Stabbed to Death in BMTC Bus

Unidentified assailants chased and stabbed a 45-year-old man to death inside a moving BMTC bus in Electronics City, south Bengaluru, on Wednesday morning.

Seetaram alias Suresh, from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, was stabbed in the stomach, chest and shoulder by three men inside the bus heading from Anekal to Majestic.

Citing eyewitnesses, police said one of the assailants appeared to be an elderly person in his 60s, while the other two appeared to be in their 30s.

There were around 35 passengers on the bus. Hearing the commotion, the driver stopped the vehicle. “All the three assailants jumped out of the vehicle and ran in different directions,” a police officer added.

4. Two Teenagers Held For Sexually Assaulting 9-Year-Old Girl in Tamil Nadu

Police have arrested two boys, both aged 17 years, on charges of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl in Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu.

Police said the accused, hailing from Neduncheri near Nannilam in the district, barged into their neighbour's house and allegedly sexually assaulted the girl while her parents were away. The incident that happened a few days ago came to light that when the girl complained of stomach pain.

The police registered a case and arrested the two teenagers. They were produced in a magistrate court in Nannilam. The court sent them to a home for children in conflict with law in Thanjavur.

5. 16-Year-Old Alleges Gangrape in Delhi, Two Held

A 16-year-old girl alleged that she was gangraped by four persons, including her friend, in northeast Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar. While two of the accused have been arrested, police said a search is on to nab the other two accused who are absconding.

Police said the accused allegedly dumped the girl at Nathupura Chowk after allegedly raping her.

According to police, the complainant studies in Class X at a government school.

6. Girl Murdered, Burned in Haryana in Suspected Honour Killing Case

A BA final year student was allegedly murdered and buried by her father and other relatives in Lukvas village of Bahadurgarh rural area of Haryana’s Jhajjar district.

It is learnt that girl’s father, identified as Ajay Singh, and his family members buried her on the night intervening Wednesday and Thursday.

"We have registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence against Ajay Singh and his relatives at Sadar police station. Accused are on the run," said Jasbir Singh, the SHO of Bahadurgarh Sadar police station.

It is alleged that Kajal, the deceased, was in a relationship that the family opposed.

7. DU Student Says ABVP Members Molested Her

A student from Delhi University and member of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) has filed a complaint alleging that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members “manhandled” and “molested” her during a talk on digital safety at Satyawati College.

She filed a police complaint with the Bharat Nagar police station in this regard. “I had finished giving my speech and there was no provocation whatsoever. They just wanted me to leave the venue,” she alleged.

Confirming that a complaint was received, DCP (northwest) Aslam Khan said, “We have registered an FIR under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (threatening) and 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the IPC. The student has named a few boys in her complaint. Further investigation is underway.”

8. 28-Year-Old Held For Acid Attack on Woman in Kerala

The rural police have arrested the man who had thrown acid on a teacher two days ago at Kuttichal. The police identified the accused as Subheesh, 28, a resident of Paruthippally near Kuttichal. Jeena Mohan, 24, who works as a teacher in a private school at Aryanadu, has been admitted to Medical College Hospital with 15% burn injuries after the acid attack.

The Medical College Hospital authorities said that although her condition is presently stable, special care is being taken to prevent infection in burnt body parts.

According to police, Subheesh had pre-planned the attack with motive of murder after Jeena Mohan had reportedly rejected his marriage proposal.

9. Ghaziabad Cop Suspended After Video of Him Demanding Bribe Surfaces

The Ghaziabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) on Thursday suspended a sub inspector from the Vijay Nagar police station after he was allegedly seen in a video demanding bribe for settling the land dispute case of a resident.

SSP HN Singh on Thursday suspended sub inspector (SI) Anil Kumar who was entrusted with the investigation of a land dispute case, which was filed after complainant Prithvi Singh approached court.

The complainant said the SI was demanding a bribe of Rs 15 lakh and also told him that some of this money will also be sent to other officials. The video, recorded nearly a month back in the complainant’s car outside the Vijay Nagar police station, was recently made public.
