A 30-year-old former Allahabad University (AU) student was shot dead at his hostel in Prayagraj on the night of Sunday, 14 April.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Shukla had six criminal cases against him including robbery and extortion. Additionally, he had also been named as an illegal inmate in the hostel as of last month, as per reports in Hindustan Times.

Tripathi had allegedly complained about the frequent out-of-hostel visitors, and had named Shukla as one example.

However, an FIR has been lodged against six students of the hostel, including Adarsh Tripathi, Abhishek Yadav, Navneet Yadav and other unidentified persons on the complaint of Shukla’s family said Superintendent of Police (City) Brajesh Kumar Srivastava to Hindustan Times.
