1. Woman in Ahmedabad Lynched Over Child-Lifting Rumours

A 40-year-old homeless woman was lynched by a mob on suspicion of being a child-lifter in Vadaj area of Ahmedabad Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Shanta Devi, of Rajasthan’s Pali district, was accompanied by three more women in an auto-rickshaw when a mob of 40 to 50 people chased the vehicle and attacked them, said police. The three other women were also injured in the attack.

The lynching is said to have been triggered by a rumour of “child-lifters in the area” that was doing the round in the social media for the past couple of days.

2. UP Man ‘Beats Dalit Woman to Death’ After Her Goats Stray Into His Field

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly beating to death a Dalit woman after her goats strayed his field at Datauli village in Fatehpur district. The incident took place in Lalauli police station area on Sunday evening.

Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Maurya said Rani Devi (65) was grazing her two goats when the animals entered the field of the accused, Shalu Singh. He then allegedly started abusing her. When the woman raised an objection, an “inebriated” Singh beat her up with a stick. The woman then rushed home, nearly 500 metres away, and died soon after, the SHO said.

3. Man Killed Wife, Chopped Body With Help of His 2 Brothers

A week after a woman’s dismembered body was found near Okhla Tank, police have arrested her husband Sajid Ali Ansari (26), an unemployed engineer, and his two brothers Ishteyaque and Hasmat for the murder.

Ansari strangled the woman, Juhi (26), during an argument and then chopped the body into seven pieces with the help of his brothers. The couple’s children were sleeping in the room when Ansari killed her.

4. Bulandshahr: Youth Bludgeons Neighbour to Death Over Tiff, Arrested

Heavy security was deployed in a Bulandshahr village Tuesday after a youth allegedly beat up his 56-year-old neighbour with a brick over an altercation, killing him.

The accused, Mohammad Ateeq, was arrested and produced before a local court, which sent him to jail, said Circle Officer of Dibai area Raghvendra Kumar Mishra. The victim — Dabloo Giri, a private bus driver — died during treatment at a medical college in Aligarh Tuesday morning.

PAC personnel and policemen have been deployed in Danpur village, which has a mixed population of Hindus and Muslims.

5. Charges Framed Against Gutka Baron over Plot to Set up Units for Dawood

A special court on Tuesday framed charges against gutka baron JM Joshi and one other person for allegedly being part of an organised crime syndicate that was setting up gutka manufacturing units in Karachi for gangster Dawood Ibrahimand his brother Anees.

The charges were framed under sections of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and the Indian Penal Code. The order was pronounced by special judge SM Bhosle.

6. Uttar Pradesh – Cop Killed by Contract Killers; Wife, 4 Daughters Held, Say Police

A sub-inspector, whose body was recovered from a drain in Sadar Bazar area of Shahjahanpur district, was allegedly murdered by two contract killers hired by his wife because he had opposed her extra-marital affair, police said Tuesday.

Meharban Ali’s wife Zahida Begum, and his daughters Saba, Zeenat, Alia and Iram, were arrested on Tuesday after Zahida allegedly confessed to the police. Police said the daughters had helped their mother because Meharban was “against their lifestyle”.

On Tuesday, the accused were produced before a local court which sent them to jail, said Circle Officer (City) Sumit Shukla. A police team has been sent to Muzaffarnagar to trace the two contract killers, identified as Tehsin and Qasim, he added.

7. BJP Youth Leader Arrested for Inflammatory Posts

The BJP Yuva Morcha vice-president of Jalpaiguri district, Sumit Chakraborty was arrested by the police on Tuesday for allegedly posting inflammatory articles in the social media, a police officer said.

Local Trinamool Congress leader Bikash Basak had lodged a complaint with the Kotwali police station here against Chakraborty on Monday alleging that he was posting inflammatory articles in the social media which may incite communal tension in the area.

8. Police Arrest 11 for Running Fake Passport Racket

The Chennai police on Monday busted a fake passport racket and arrested 11 people, including a VCK worker who contested the 2016 assembly election from the Sriperumbudur constituency, his brother and four Sri Lankan Tamils. The police said the gang had made fake passports for many Lankan Tamils to travel to other countries.

Police recovered 80 duplicate Indian passports, 12 Lankan passports, a laptop, hard disk, scanning machine, colour printer, fake seals - including a passport official seal - and Rs 85,000 from the men.

9. Man Gets 10 Years for Raping Minor

A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old man to 10 years' imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2015.

Special judge VS Padalkar found the accused guilty under Indian Penal Code sections for rape and kidnapping, and sections of POCSO Act.
