1. Two Minor Girls Raped By 11 Men in Jharkhand After They Called Friend for Help

Eleven people were arrested for allegedly raping two minor girls in the Lohardaga district of Jharkhand, police said on Sunday, 19 August.

They were nabbed after a police team conducted raids in the Hirhi Harra Toli locality, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashish Kumar Mahli told a press conference here on Sunday.

The accused, all aged between 18 and 28 years, had raped the girls on 16 August when they were going to the Hirhi Harra Toli area along with their neighbour, he said.

They were travelling on a motorcycle which developed snag near the Hirhi Railway bridge, the DSP said.

One of the girls called her friend over phone for help but he sent his 11 friends to the spot instead.

2. Delhi: Fight Over Directions Turns Fatal

A 29-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death, while another man received serious injuries in outer Delhi’s Vijay Vihar late Saturday night. According to police, four persons, including a juvenile, allegedly got into a fight with the victims over directions to a cigarette shop. Police arrested the three accused – Nitin, Praveen and Ravi – and apprehended the juvenile Sunday.

The incident took place at around 2.45 am when Rahul (29) came to meet his cousin Navin (28) in Vijay Vihar, said a senior police officer.

“At around 2.30 am, they came out from their home to smoke. They were looking for a cigarette shop when they spotted the four accused, and asked them for directions. The accused were allegedly in an inebriated condition and got into a heated argument with the duo, following which Praveen whipped out a knife and stabbed Rahul and Navin,” said police.

3. Ghaziabad Tenant Killed 4-year-old for Resisting Sexual Assault, Stuffed Body in Box

A 60-year-old man had allegedly murdered the four-year-old boy, whose body was recovered in Sahibabad in June 18 months after he had gone missing, for resisting his sexual assault, police claimed on Sunday, 19 August. Rajendra Shah, the alleged murderer who was a tenant of the boy’s family, has been arrested.

The boy’s decomposed body was recovered from a wooden chest on the rooftop of a neighbour’s house on 3 June. He had gone missing after returning from school on 1 December 2016.

“The man (Shah) has confessed to the crime,’’ claimed circle officer (Sahibabad) Rakesh Mishra. He claimed the boy shouted when Shah allegedly tried to sexually assault him under the influence of alcohol. “As a result, the accused stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife. When everyone was out searching for the boy, Shah placed the body in the wooden chest, which was lying on the rooftop.”

4. Unable to Repay Loan of Rs 25,000, Youth Kills Woman, Son

A 45-year-old widow and her 27-year-old son were murdered at their house in Dilshad Colony on Friday. The duo was killed by the youth's friend who had borrowed Rs 25,000 from the woman but could not pay her back.

The accused, Ankit (23), was arrested on Sunday evening and police are looking for two accomplices. He had also stolen the youth's KTM motorbike.

5. NEET Aspirant Stabbed to Death over Cricket Brawl in Rajasthan’s Kota

A youth’s dreams of becoming a doctor like his father were shattered in a brawl in a game of cricket in Kota.

Police said Atul Singh, 17, of Uttar Pradesh’s Mau, was stabbed to death by a local resident who was drunk following a dispute during the game on Saturday, 18 August. The accused, identified as Rahul Bhati, 20, has been arrested.

Singh was playing cricket with his fellow coaching students and friends in Onkareshwar public park of Mahaveer Nagar III area, where Bhati joined them. However, an argument broke out as Bhati insisted on batting even after he was bowled out, and he allegedly stabbed Singh before fleeing the spot.

Locals took the injured student to the New Government College Hospital where he died during treatment on Saturday night.

6. Madhya Pradesh: Husband-Wife Duo Involved in Over 500 Thefts Held

A couple was arrested from Jabalpur for their alleged involvement in a large number of theft cases at the local railway station, the police said on Sunday. Police suspect that Manoj Gupta (35) and his wife Pooja (30), who were arrested last evening, had committed more than 500 thefts at the Jabalpur railway station over the last four years.

Explaining the modus operandi of the accused duo, Government Railway Police (GRP) officer YP Mishra said while Gupta used to befriend unsuspecting passengers at the railway station his wife would steal their luggage.

7. 11-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Raped by Shopkeeper at Store in Chhattisgarh

A grocery store owner was arrested for allegedly raping a 11-year-old girl in Chattisgarh’s Koriya district, police said on Sunday.

Ramdayal Sahu (60) was arrested on Saturday for sexually assaulting the girl at his shop, in the Patna area of Baikunthpur tehsil, on 16 August when she had come to buy chocolates, a local police official said.

“The girl was alone at the time when the incident happened. Her parents came to know of it yesterday when the girl experienced pain in her private parts. Her parents then filed a police complaint following which Sahu was arrested,” the official said.

8. JNU Non-Teaching Staffer Killed, Another Injured

A 29-year-old non-teaching staff of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was allegedly stabbed to death in Rohini’s Vijay Vihar while his cousin was injured, the police said on Sunday.

The police have arrested three persons and apprehended one. They received a PCR call at 2.45 am from Vijay Vihar stating that two were men stabbed.

A team rushed to the spot and the injured were taken to a hospital. One Rahul was declared brought dead while his cousin, Naveen, is said to be critical, the police said.

During interrogation, it was found that the victims were employed at the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

9. Man Found Dead at His Residence in Delhi

A 30-year-old man was found dead at his Mukundpur residence in north-west Delhi on 18 August, the police said on Sunday. The body had a bullet injury on the left side of the chest.

A police officer said that the victim has been identified as Suresh. A case under IPC Section 302 (murder) has been registered. Suresh’s family found his body in a pool of blood. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The body was handed over to his family after an autopsy.
