1. Tamil Nadu: Polytechnic Student Shot Dead by Friend Over Trivial Issue

An 18-year-old polytechnic student was shot dead by his friend at his residence in Venkatamangalam near Vandaloor in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu after they had a quarrel over watching a video on mobile.

After absconding for a day, the accused, identified as Vijay, surrendered before the magistrate court in Chengalpet on Wednesday. He has been sent to Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai for 15 days.

The deceased has been identified as Mukesh, a second-year student at a polytechnic college. The incident happened when Mukesh went to visit his friend Vijay (20), who works as a food-delivery agent, in Bajanai Koil street in Venkatamangalam town on Tuesday afternoon.

2. Tis Hazari Clash: Delhi HC Says No Need to Clarify 3 Nov Order, It Is Self-Explanatory

The Delhi High Court Wednesday said there is no need to clarify its 3 November order in the lawyers-police clash at Tis Hazari Courts Complex as it is self explanatory.

A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar disposed of the Centre’s applications seeking clarification and review of the order which had that said no coercive action be taken against advocates. It sought that the order should not be applicable on the subsequent incidents. The detailed order is awaited.

The hearing was held in a jam-packed courtroom. The Centre, in its application, had urged the court to clarify that its 3 November order creates no impediment in taking action against any further illegalities.

3. Mumbai: Out on Bail for Rape of Woman, Man ‘Kidnaps, Rapes’ Her Again; Arrested

A 36-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly threatening, kidnapping and raping a 25-year-old woman at knife point, police said Tuesday. In 2013, police said, the accused had been arrested for raping the victim on the pretext of marriage. He reportedly sexually assaulted the woman again after he came out of jail on bail a few days ago, police added.

According to the police, the accused and the woman were neighbours and knew each other since 2012. “In 2013, the accused and the complainant were in a relationship. The woman, in her statement, had then said that the accused had raped her after promising to marry her. She had registered a case against him after he refused to marry her later, following which he was arrested,” a police officer said. The accused, the officer added, had managed to get bail a few months ago.

4. Delhi: Former SDM Among 3 Held in ‘Rs 240-Crore Fraud Case’

A former sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) from West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden and two officials were arrested by the Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) Wednesday in an alleged Rs 240-crore land fraud case. A senior officer of the ACB said the arrested persons have been identified as former SDM Ramesh Kumar, former tehsildar Surender Kumar and revenue official Manjeet Singh.

“The trio had in 2018 allegedly transferred a piece of government land measuring 35,000 sq yards, in West Delhi’s Tatarpur village to private parties,” officials said. The SDM had taken voluntary retirement in July 2018, a month after the inquiry was initiated. “Further investigation is underway,” an officer said.

5. Chinmayanand Case: UP Law Student’s Mother Alleges Torture by SIT Official, Writes to CJI

The mother of the Shahjahanpur law student, who has accused former minister Swami Chinmayanand of rape, has written a letter to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) alleging torture by the sleuths, said their lawyer on Wednesday, 6 November.

The SIT had asked the family to join the probe on November 1 and the letter is dated 2 November, in which the mother says, “I was assaulted by a SIT member. They wanted us to state that we were involved in the extortion bid. Later, the SIT also threatened to send me, my husband and 10-year-old daughter to jail.” The family has named SIT chief Naveen Arora and a few other officials in the letter to the CJI. HT has a copy of the letter addressed to the CJI. All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) and other women’s organisations have submitted a written to the governor.

6. Disturbed Over Marital Discord, Man Kills Self at Delhi Metro Station

Disturbed over marital discord, a man allegedly killed himself by jumping in front of a train on the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line on Wednesday, 6 November, police said.

Services were briefly delayed between Vishwavidyalaya and Samaypur Badli stations due to the incident, DMRC officials said, adding the train was going towards Samyapur Badli.

“A man, aged around 40, committed suicide at Vidhan Sabha Metro Station,” DCP (Metro) Vikram Porwal said.

He was rushed to the nearest hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said.

The man was identified as Charanjeet Singh, a resident of Burari, a senior police official said.

7. Police on Lookout for Maharashtra Jewellers Over Fraud Charges

The police have issued look out circulars (LOCs) against five directors of Ghatkopar-based Rasiklal Sankalchand Jewellers (RSJ) after a cheating case was registered against them for allegedly duping several investors using ponzi cash and gold schemes.

The LOCs were issued against RSJ director Zenil Jayesh Shah, his brother Nilesh Shah, and their sons, a senior officer told HT. All of them were booked by the Pantnagar police on 2 November under various sections of IPC and the case was handed over to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police. The accused — Nilesh and Zenil —did not respond to HT’s calls and text messages.

EOW officials said that so far, 17 investors have come forward with complaints against RSJ, claiming the jeweller cheated them by luring them with various lucrative gold schemes.

8. UP Man Arrested for Posting ‘Objectionable’ Photo of PM on Social Media

A scrap dealer was arrested in Noida on Wednesday for allegedly posting an objectionable picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, the police said.

Raja alias Javed posted the picture on WhatsApp and Facebook, the police said.

"A complaint was filed against the accused on Monday. He was arrested around 1:30 pm today," an official said.

The mobile phone used by him for uploading the picture has been seized and he has been remanded in judicial custody by a local court, the official added.

When asked about the complainant in the case, an official said his identity was being guarded as it was a sensitive issue.

9. Woman, Allegedly Gang-Raped in Madhya Pradesh, Case Registered

A 35-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped by four men, including two wardens of the Sarangpur sub-jail of Madhya Pradesh on 1 November, police said today.

One of the wardens, who is an also accused in the case, had allegedly asked the woman over phone to visit the sub-jail in Rajgarh district claiming that her husband, who is lodged in the facility, had taken ill, a police officer said.

"The woman informed the warden that she won't be able to visit the jail as she had no means of transport available. Later, a man, identified as Ramchandra Gurjar, called up the woman and offered to take her to the sub-jail," said Premlata Khatri, in-charge, Salsalai police station where the First Information Report (FIR) was registered today.

When the woman accompanied by Ramchandra Gurjar reached Kithor ki Baldi on way to Sarangpur around 8 pm on 1 November, other accused allegedly joined in and took turns in raping her.
