Activist Irom Sharmila on Friday spoke out against the attack on the Indian Army in Manipur. But she did maintain that the controversial AFSPA could not prevent the attack and that it should be repealed.

Sharmila said, “I condemn the killing strongly. But the incident took place in an area where AFSPA is fully applied”.

Sharmila also said that AFSPA does not target a particular organisation but the people of Manipur and that has led to a lot of anger. She also hinted that the anger could have been the reason behind the attack.

Sharmila said that violence only leads to more violence.
