Rajya Sabha MP and MDMK Chief Vaiko and his supporters were detained by the Delhi police on Thursday near Jantar Mantar, during protests against the visit of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Over 500 protesters gathered in the capital to demand that any permission given to the Sri Lankan President to visit India be revoked. Protesters who were holding placards and raising slogans condemned External Affairs Minister Jayashankar's attendance at Gotabaya's swearing in ceremony. The Sri Lankan President is on a three-day visit to India from 28-30 November.

2. Dalit Girl from Kanchipuram Found Dead, Kin Allege Rape

A 20-year-old Dalit girl from Kanchipuram was found hanging in a private garden on Thursday morning with stab marks and burns on her body. The girl’s father said in a police complaint that he suspects a man, with whom the girl was believed to be in a relationship, and a few others to have gang-raped and murdered his daughter.

The deceased was identified as Rani (name changed) from Aandi Siruvallur village near Walajabad, who was working in a private company in Kancheepuram. She was last seen with Rajesh (30) from Karai village, who is working in a private company.

3. Heavy Rain Forecast for Chennai over Weekend

Chennai and its suburban areas are in for a treat as active easterlies wave would bring heavy downpour till 2 December. Most of the rainfall would occur during the night and early morning hours. Rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Thursday shows that several weather stations in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai (KTC) recorded heavy rains. Tambaram received the highest rainfall in the state with 15 cm.

N Puviarasan, director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre of Regional Meteorological Centre, said an easterly trough is observed over the south of Bay of Bengal. Weather blogger Pradeep John said peak rains are expected around 30 November to 2 December.

4. Edappadi K Palaniswami Launches Tirupathur and Ranipet Districts

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Thursday that the AIADMK was carving out new districts in the state to ensure that the district administration got closer to the people and citizens got their grievances redressed quickly with distance and connectivity to district headquarters being no hurdle.

Palaniswami was speaking at government functions at Tirupathur and Ranipet, two new districts carved out from Vellore district which he launched in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister, O Pannerselvam and other ministerial colleagues. This takes the total number of districts in the State to 36.

While maestro Ilayaraja was being felicitated with special commendation at International Film Festival of India in Goa, his close aides Bharathiraja, Bhagyaraj, Seeman, Suresh Kamatchi and Ramesh Kanna among other hundred film personalities were trying to sort out the row between the composer and Prasad Studios.

Sources say that that the studio space was presented to him by LV Prasad, founder of Prasad Studios. Recently, Raja’s manager Gaffar has filed a complaint against Prasad Studios at Virugambakkam police station that the management and the staff are disrupting the composer’s work on the premises. It was alleged that LV Prasad's grandson and studio director Sai Prasad was piling up computers outside the studio and reportedly damaging the musical instruments stored in the studio.
