1. Door-to-Door Campaign on to Detect TB Cases
In a step towards eliminating tuberculosis by 2025, Tamil Nadu has launched an Active Case Finding campaign in all districts. Each district, including Chennai, has drawn up its vulnerability map based on existing cases, geographical parameters and pattern of population.
Launched on 1 December, the campaign will go on for three weeks. It comprises door-to-door visits to check on persons with symptoms of TB and collection of sputum samples for testing. The State TB Office has drawn up a schedule for deploying its mobile diagnostic vans that contain digital X-rays and Cartridge Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CB-NAAT) machines. Four vehicles that contain digital X-ray machines and two vehicles containing CB-NAAT machines have started touring the State.

2. 4-Year-Murdered By Mother's Partner?
In a shocking case, a four-year-old boy was murdered allegedly by his mother’s live-in partner, on Thursday. The toddler Arun, was the son of Ganga (27), a native of Karnataka. About two years ago, Ganga, a widow, started living with Venkatesan (30), a native of Bengaluru. The couple were working as daily wage labourers, and staying at an under-construction site in Sithalapakkam.
A week ago, Ganga left Arun with Venkatesan and went to her native village. This was the first time she had left Arun alone with Venkatesan. “Venkatesan told Ganga the child slipped and fell while playing. However, he succumbed to injuries on Thursday, raising doubts about the claims,” said police.

3. DMK Says It IS Ready for Polls
DMK president MK Stalin on Friday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict permitting the State government to hold rural local body elections in 27 districts, excluding the nine reorganised districts, where the delimitation process has not been completed. But he maintained that conducting polls in other districts would lead to confusion.
“The judgment is historic as Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has said. The verdict safeguards the principles of democracy. I welcome the judgment on behalf of the DMK,” Stalin told reporters at Anna Arivalayam, DMK’s headquarters in Chennai. Stalin reiterated that the DMK did not go to court to stop the elections but to ensure that they were held by following all legal procedures.

4. Woman Dies 14 Days After Being Knocked Down By Thief
Fourteen days after she fell off a motorcycle while trying to resist a bag-snatching attempt, 49-year-old Murugalakshmi died Friday. A resident of Pozhichalur, she worked as a caterer for marriages and other functions. On November 22, when she was returning home with her son on his motorcycle, an unidentified man riding on another bike snatched her handbag. The incident happened at 9am, on the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam radial road. The mother-son duo fell on the road as they lost balance. Murugalakshmi, who was riding pillion, sustained head injuries. She was admitted to a private hospital in Anna Nagar, where she died without responding to treatment.

5. Police Control Room Exclusively for Women, Children in Distress
Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan said an exclusive control room set up for rendering quick assistance to women and children in distress began operations on Friday. It will function like a police control room. It will be managed by women officers from the special wing for crime against women and children, at its Thousand Lights office. The staff will be on round-the-clock duty to attend calls. Senior officers in the ranks of inspector will monitor them.
H Jayalakshmi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, special wing for crime against women and children said, “As and when we receive calls from women and children who are in distress, the information will be passed on to the Deputy Commissioners of Police, in the respective police limits. The idea is to render quick assistance and protection.”
