1. Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme to Cover Mental Illnesses

The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) is all set to cover mental illnesses. To start with, it will be rolled out for patients requiring admission for treatment of various psychiatric disorders in government hospitals.

CMCHIS, that was launched in 2012, was integrated with the Central government’s flagship health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in September, 2018. The move to bring mental health under CMCHIS comes after the integration, as PMJAY has a package covering a list of mental illnesses including schizophrenia and mental retardation, according to officials.

At what was meant to be a concert by Ilaiyaraaja to celebrate actor Kamal Haasan completing 60 years in cinema, fellow film star Rajinikanth gave a speech about how ‘wonders’ could happen, opening up the possibility of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan joining hands to take on the Dravidian parties in the 2021 Assembly election. After actor Vijay's father S A Chandrasekaran set the ball rolling by saying he wished to see Rajinikanth and Haasan in an alliance for the 2021 polls, Rajinikanth appeared to take a dig at Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

“Two years ago, Edappadi Palaniswami wouldn't even have dreamt of becoming CM. [But] It happened. And then, they said he will be the CM for only a few days. But he has been in the post for two years. So, wonders will happen,” Rajinikanth said during Sunday’s event.

The northeast monsoon, which remained subdued this month, is likely to strengthen this week. Several parts of the state are expected to receive fairly widespread rainfall through the week, raising expectations of bridging the deficit that resulted owing to long dry spell in many areas.

A trough of easterlies from the equatorial Indian Ocean off the south Sri Lanka coast to the southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamil Nadu coast persists and may influence rains over the State till Friday. During the past 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Monday, some places received moderate showers. Tarangambadi in Nagapattinam district received the highest volume of 3 cm. The Meteorological Department has forecast that the state would experience fairly widespread rainfall on Tuesday, with the likelihood of 75% of the weather stations recording rains.
