1. 11-Month-Old Boy Succumbs to Dengue Fever in TN, Nearly 3,000 Cases Confirmed in State
An 11-month-old boy succumbed to dengue fever in Chennai on Friday. The boy’s family resides in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district, where he had first been taken to a local Primary Health Centre (PHC). From there, he was brought to Sri Ramachandra Hospital in Porur, Chennai and was being administered further treatment where he succumbed on Friday evening.
This is the second dengue death to be reported so far in the state. Nearly 3,000 people have tested positive for dengue virus across the state. Earlier, state health minister C Vijayabhaskar had announced special fever clinics had been set up in government hospitals in the state in an effort to combat the influx of the disease.

“Both the Prime Minister and the Chinese President hailed efforts of Tamil Nadu in organising the summit,” said foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale. “The Chinese President was overwhelmed by the welcome given to him at the airport.” Meanwhile, on the behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami thanked the Prime Minister on Saturday for choosing Mamallapuram as the venue.
He thanked all who were engaged in making arrangements for the meet. “By choosing Mamallapuram as the venue for the summit, the Prime Minister has enhanced the esteem of Tamil Nadu in the global arena,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.

3. Was It a Drama? TN Congress Slams PM for Plogging on Beach at Mamallapuram
The Congress' Tamil Nadu unit on Sunday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi plogging on the beach at Mamallapuram on Saturday, wondering if it was a 'drama' since the entire area had been cleaned up earlier ahead of his visit here. On Sunday, TNCC President K S Alagiri welcomed the two leaders meeting at Mamallapuram and visiting UNESCO heritage sites, saying it reflected Tamil Nadu's pride.
Referring to the three-minute video by Modi, Alagiri said the Prime Minister showed his keenness in the Swachch Bharat initiative by doing so. However, he pointed out that since Modi's visit was planned in advance, all sanitation work had been diligently carried out at the hotel zone where he stayed, even as the beach had been cleaned by conservancy staff using machines.

4. NEET Impersonation Scam: Chennai MBBS Student, Her Mother Arrested
A few weeks after the NEET impersonation scam brought to light a web of deception and malpractice in the state, a girl student and her mother were arrested on Saturday, taking the total number of arrests to 10.
The NEET impersonation scam came to light when the Dean of the Government Medical College in Theni got two emails from a man named Ashok Krishnan, complaining against KV Udit Surya, a first-year student. So far, four student-parent duos have been arrested.

5. Lalitha Jewellery Robbery Case: Accused Murugan Surrenders at Bengaluru Court
The mastermind behind the infamous Lalitha Jewellery heist, Murugan (45), surrendered before the 11th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Bengaluru civil court Friday. The history-sheeter has been on the run for several years. The Tiruchirapalli special task force has sought the city court’s approval to take Murugan into their custody.
His relative and accomplice in the heist, Suresh (28), turned himself in after cops put pressure by arresting his mother P Kanagavalli, a resident of Seerathopu in Tiruchirapalli district, who was also part of the robbery. On 3 October Lalitha Jewellery, a three-storeyed building near Chathiram bus Stand in Tiruchirappalli district, was burgled in the early hours after masked men gained entry into the store by drilling a hole in its wall.
