Sheena Bora’s demand for an unspecified amount of money from Peter Mukerjea’s wife Indrani, was the latter’s central motive behind killing her own daughter. But what the CBI has avoided mentioning in its over 1,000-page chargesheet filed on Thursday are the sordid details of the affair between Sheena and a ‘person close to Indrani’. This had infuriated Indrani.
The Quint had earlier reported that the affair between the ‘person close to Indrani’ and Sheena was the prime motive behind the murder. Close friends of the Mukerjeas revealed that sometime before they exited their electronic media business, INX Media Pvt Ltd, this man told Indrani that he would be visiting Thailand on a weekend to meet some prospective business partners. In reality, however, he spent some intimate time with Sheena in a Thai town.
That relationship became a cause of concern for many others in Mukerjea and Bora family. That was also the reason the CBI got Rahul Mukerjea and Mikhail Bora’s statement recorded before the Magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC.
The statement of the driver Shyamwar Rai, recorded before the Magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC, finally revealed Peter Mukejea’s criminal conspiracy, leading to his arrest. In his statement Rai has said that Peter was aware of the murder from the beginning.
Rai had also mentioned in his statement that some senior Mumbai Police officers forced him to take the entire blame for murder in order to protect the other accused in the case. This once again hints at the fact that that Peter was close to a top cop in the Mumbai Police.
The CBI chargesheet in the case is primarily based on circumstantial evidence. A supplementary chargesheet will soon follow.
