Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manoj Thackeray was found dead in Barwani on Sunday, 20 January.
According to the police, Thackeray had gone out for a morning walk when he was hit with a rock, which has been recovered from the crime scene, on his head and killed.
This is the second incident in which a BJP leader was found murdered in the state in less than a week. Earlier, on Thursday, another local BJP leader, Prahlad Bandhawar, was shot dead in Mandsaur.
Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan trained his guns on the Kamal Nath government and questioned the situation of law and order in the state.
Chouhan took to Twitter and said, “Criminals have become bold and law and order situation has crumbled under the present Congress government.” He also added that the BJP will be forced to take to the streets if the criminals are not caught.
Chouhan also alleged a “conspiracy” behind the killing of Prahlad Bandhawar and demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
“Killing Bhandhawar for a meagre Rs 25,000 is unacceptable,” Chouhan had tweeted.
The police have arrested two suspects in connection with Bandhawar’s killing, one of whom is being associated with the BJP itself.
Rubbishing the claims of the BJP, Chief Minister Kamal Nath had earlier said that there is no need for an investigation and that the matter should not be “politicised” as it is an internal matter of the party.
