BJP leader Suraj Pal Amu, who had offered a bounty to behead actor Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali over their film, Padmavati, resigned as Haryana Chief Media Coordinator of the party on Wednesday, 29 November. He told reporters:
With a heavy heart, I have resigned from the post I had in BJP. I am pained at the behaviour of Haryana CM. I have never seen a BJP CM so arrogant who doesn’t respect party workers and community representatives.Suraj Pal Amu
Amu’s violent rhetoric against the Padmavati team drew criticism from all quarters. The BJP has issued him a show cause notice, asking him to explain his statements. At the time, BJP National Secretary Anil Jain was quoted as saying that the party condemns such threats, while reiterating that it was not supporting the film.
Earlier, Amu also lashed out at West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, and said she would would face a similar fate like Surpanakha if she supported the film, continued to support Bhansali’s magnum opus, The Indian Express reported.
