Forget IDs! Soon You Can Check-in at Airports Using Biometrics
This digital revamp will also help do away with the practice of stamping boarding tickets during security checks.
Soon, identity checks at airports maybe a dilapidated concept, with the Aviation Ministry planning on linking the databases of airlines and airports with passengers’ Aadhaar and passport numbers, Times of India reported.
If that happens, Aviation Secretary RN Choubey told TOI, passengers may neither need flight tickets nor identity cards, and may have to use biometrics to prove their identity.
The check-in information will already have the details of the passengers’ flight. This digital revamp will also help do away with the practice of stamping boarding tickets during security checks.
“We will soon know the indicative cost of the project and time frame in which it can be implemented," Choubey told TOI. That will also cut the waiting time for passengers, he added.
Currently, at least 17 airports have stopped stamping of hand luggage, with 10 more to conduct a trial.
