In Karnataka's Shivamogga, a Congress MLA, BK Sangameshwara, was caught on camera threatening a forest official while on duty. The MLA was heard using abusive words while speaking to the forest official on the phone in front of his supporters. This happened because the forest officials objected to the construction of a temple on forest land and stalled the project.

5. Lack of Proper Vaccination Drive Behind 'Monkey Fever' Outbreak in Karnataka

Officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department in Karnataka's Shivamogga district are toiling to prevent another outbreak of a fatal viral infection – 'Kyasanur Forest Disease' (KFD) – popularly referred to as 'monkey fever' after the disease claimed the lives of five persons in the last two months. But questions have been raised against the department's efforts after it emerged that it did not follow the protocol in providing vaccination when it found evidence of a possible outbreak in January 2018.

Confirming the lapses by health officials, Shivanand Patil, Health and Family Welfare Minister of Karnataka said, "It has come to my notice that there have been lapses committed by the Health Department. An expert committee will be appointed and an internal enquiry will be conducted on this, which will include forest, health, rural development and the veterinary departments. The focus is on restricting the spread of the disease once again.”
