1. 8 Victims’ Bodies Reach Bengaluru from Colombo
The heartbreak over the Colombo Easter tragedy was felt more acutely in Karnataka on Wednesday, 24 April, as the remains of eight victims from the state were brought to Kempegowda International Airport from Sri Lanka in separate flights.
The bodies of JD(S) members M Ranganna, K Hanumantharayappa, Lakshminarayana, H Shivakumar, A Mare Gowda, H Puttaraju and LG Ramesh, and businessman Nagaraja Reddy, a relative of BJP legislator SR Vishwanath, were handed over to the devastated families for last rites.
Two more people from Karnataka, Narayan Chandrashekar and Remurai Tulasi Ram, were killed in the 21 April bombings, and the state is waiting for further information about them from Sri Lanka.

2. Desilting, Other Rain Preparations Begin but Will it be Done Before Monsoon?
When heavy rains lashed Bengaluru last Thursday, 18 April, it brought the city's traffic on Old Madras Road to a halt. For many, the logjam on the road foreshadowed what the city's residents experience during the monsoon when rains create havoc in the city.
This year, the city's civic officials held a meeting on Wednesday, 24 April to assess the preparations for the upcoming monsoon season and take precautionary measures to tackle floods. The meeting was convened by Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara and was attended by BBMP, BWSSB, BESCOM and police officials in Vidhana Soudha. This is the first time such a meeting has been convened as early as April.

3. Ramesh Jarkiholi Threatens to Resign With Supporters
Congress rebel Ramesh Jarkiholi, who left Belagavi in a huff after a spat with his minister brother Satish, arrived in Bengaluru on Wednesday, 24 April and threatened the party with not only his resignation, but also of other "disgruntled" legislators.
Ramesh, however, did not specify names of other MLAs who would resign along with him. He, instead, said that he will hold talks with his supporters and take at a decision in a day or two. "I cannot take the decision alone. And there is no point in resigning alone...Wait for a week’s time. I will give you a good news,” he told reporters.
He, at the same time, hinted that he was still open for negotiations with the Congress leaders.

4. CID Begins Questioning Raichur Murder Accused
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sleuths, who are probing the mysterious death of an engineering student in Raichur, whisked away the 25-yearold prime suspect in the case to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The Raichur judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court directed the CID to take the suspect, Sudarshan Yadav, in custody for four days. Yadav, who was arrested by Raichur’s Netajinagar police earlier, was in judicial custody.
The 21-year-old student, who had gone missing after she left for college on 13 April, was found hanging from a tree behind the Manika Prabhu temple in Raichur on 15 April. The local police, who did not register a missing complaint when her parents approached them, tried to downplay her death by terming it ‘suicide’.

5. Ex-journalist Booked for Extorting Rs 25L From doc
A former television journalist has been booked for blackmailing and extorting Rs 25 lakh from a doctor who runs an ayurvedic medical college and hospital in Nelamangala on the northern outskirts of Bengaluru.
Police said Shanbhag first met Dr Srinivasan last November when the latter was busy with the inauguration of the hospital. He told the doctor that he had some objectionable content about him and threatened to broadcast it on the news channel a day before the hospital's inauguration if he did not pay him Rs 25 lakh.
