1. After 8-month Wait, State Gets Education Minister
After an eight month wait, the state finally has a full-time primary and secondary education minister. Gubbi legislator SR Srinivas was given the charge of the department on Monday, 24 June.
The two independents who were inducted into chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s cabinet 11 days ago, were also given their portfolios on Monday. R Shankar, as expected, got municipal administration, which was earlier held by late CS Shivalli, whereas H Nagesh has been appointed as the small-scale industries minister. The latter portfolio was previously with Srinivas.
The primary and secondary education department didn’t have a full-time minister after BSP legislator N Mahesh resigned last year stating he needed time to build the party. Kumaraswamy started overseeing the department.

2. IMA Founder's Pistol, 50 Rounds Found in Locker
The police recovered a licensed pistol and 50 cartridges (rounds) from a locker at the IMA head office on Monday, 24 June.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) searched IMA Towers, located on Lady Curzon Road in Shivajinagar, a day after IMA's fugitive founder Mohammed Mansoor Khan said in a video that a lot of gold jewellery and bullion was locked up in the office.
SIT chief B R Ravikanthe Gowda confirmed the recovery of the pistol and the cartridges but made it clear that Khan's video would not be considered a piece of evidence in the investigation. Gowda asserted that the SIT was making all efforts to trace the location from where the video was uploaded to YouTube.

3. Five Dead, Vehicles Washed Away as Rain Ravages North K’taka
Heavy rainfall over the past two days has left a trail of death and destruction in North Karnataka. Five persons, including two women, died in rain-related incidents in Bidar, Belagavi and Vijayapura districts.
While a woman and her son were washed away in a swollen stream in Yalladagundi village of Bidar district’s Basavakalyan taluk, a resident of Tenalli village in Indi taluk of Vijayapura district died after he was struck by lightning, which also killed several sheep in Indi.
Champabai Shinde, an 80-year-old woman from Ambedkar Nagar in Chikkodi, Belagavi district, died after water inundated her house. Two buffaloes and several sheep reportedly perished after water gushed into the cowshed late in the night. No information was available on the fifth rain-related fatality.

4. BJP Criticises CM for ‘Overspending’ on His Village Stay Campaign
The BJP on Monday, 24 June criticised Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and the JD(S)-Congress coalition government for allegedly overspending on the CM’s hyped village stay or ‘Grama Vastavya’ programme.
“He has resumed the village stay programme just to distract the public from the massive failure in governance in the 13 months of his tenure,” state BJP president BS Yeddyurappa told reporters, as he released a booklet titled “Grama Vastavya, Shunya Sadhana”, which roughly translates to ‘Zero Accomplishments in Village Stay’.
“He is spending crores of rupees on his village stays. During his stay in Chandargi village this year, Rs 1.22 crore was spent on arranging food and other things.” said Yeddyurappa.

5. Duo Fakes HC Stay Order to Evade Arrest Warrant
Two habitual offenders from Uttar Pradesh allegedly forged a high court stay order to evade a non-bailable warrant.
The deputy registrar of the High Court of Karnataka has filed a complaint at the Vidhana Soudha police station about the forgery which came to light after the Uttar Pradesh police wrote to the special public prosecutor (SPP) seeking confirmation about the stay order.
The UP police had obtained a non-bailable warrant against Vikki Singh and Vishal Singh, who would often fly to Bengaluru and other major cities, steal Bajaj Pulsar motorbikes and commit chain-snatchings.
