1. BS Yediyurappa in Delhi to Finalise Cabinet Expansion

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday said he will be in Delhi for the next two days during which he would hold talks with party president Amit Shah and finalise the much awaited expansion of his cabinet.

The Chief Minister, who will leave for the national capital tonight, would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a host of union ministers during his visit.

BS Yediyurappa said he would also discuss several developmental works concerning the state and central relief to flood and ravaged districts.

"Tomorrow morning at 10 am, meeting has been fixed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and on certain developmental works relating to the state I will be meeting several ministers, including the Railway Minister among others," BS Yediyurappa said.

2. Restore All 19 Encroached Lakes or Build Artificial Ones: HC to Govt

The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the state government and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to come up with a compendious plan to restore 19 lakes in Bengaluru city, which have been completely encroached upon.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreenivas Oka instructed the state government and BBMP that if the encroachments cannot be cleared, then 19 artificial lakes must be created to compensate for the loss.

The Chief Justice has given the government one month’s time to submit the comprehensive lake restoration report.

3. Congress Leaders Demand Probe Into Phone Tapping

Congress leaders joined the ruling BJP on Thursday in demanding a probe into allegations of phone tapping during the previous coalition government headed by HD Kumaraswamy in which they were partners.

“Phone tapping is a serious offence. Let there be an investigation on the issue & take action against those responsible, if the allegations are true,” former chief minister and Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah tweeted on Thursday.

Recalling what had transpired during the regime of late Ramakrishna Hegde, who resigned as CM over phonetapping allegations, veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said the government should immediately probe who ordered it.

4. CM Justifies Delay in Flood Relief

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday justified the delay on the part of the Centre announcing a flood relief package for the state.

"Why is the delay? It's because Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka have faced floods. The Centre will announce (relief) for all the states together," he told reporters. Yediyurappa has sought an interim relief package of ₹3,000 crore whereas the whereas the Opposition Congress and JD(S) have sought ₹5,000 crore.

The Congress has accused the Centre of delaying financial aid for the state, pointing out that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had not provided any assurance despite conducting an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas.

5. Man Blackmails ex-GF With Photos, Nabbed

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly blackmailing his former girlfriend using photographs of her private moments.

Kiran, 23, a resident of Chikkabanaswadi, and the woman were in a relationship for three years. They worked in a salon in Banaswadi. She had shared private photos and videos with him and he had saved them. He had also recorded videos of their intimate moments.

Recently, they broke up and she began avoiding Kiran who shared her photos with a cousin and another friend. He threatened her that he’d share the photos on social media. On 10 August, she filed a complaint with cybercrime police. Police arrested Kiran, who confessed to blackmailing the woman.
