1. ABVP Activists Force K’taka Prof to Kneel for Anti-BJP FB Post

Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the BJP forced a professor at an engineering college in Karnataka to kneel and apologise over a Facebook post in which the latter allegedly criticised the central government for creating Indo-Pakistan tensions.

The professor of Civil Engineering at Vachana Pitamaha Dr P G Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology, Sandeep Wathar also hailed Pakistan Prime Imran Khan in the Facebook post for his stand during the “escalating” tension between the neighbours, The Indian Express reported on 2 March.

“Who sounds more intelligent in all this? You…bhakts. You will (be) the reason for destruction of millions of lives if this tension escalates. BJP…absolutely zero shame,” Wathar wrote in one of the Facebook posts.

2. Won't Give Mandya Seat to Congress: Kumaraswamy

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said if Nikhil Kumaraswamy wishes to face forthcoming Lok Sabha polls from Mandya constituency, there is no question of changing the constituency.

Speaking to mediapersons at the helipad in Shivamogga city on Sunday, 3 March, he said the part has been representing Mandya in Lok Sabha for the past many years.

"We have a strong rapport with people of the constituency. So the party would field its candidate from Mandya ." When asked about Congress candidate from Mandya, he said the party would not give up Mandya seat to Congress under any circumstances.

3. Mob Vandalises Madiwala Bakery After Owners Back Pak Army on FB

A 10-member group vandalised Plaza Bakery in Madiwala on Saturday, 2 March, after its owners allegedly uploaded posts supporting Pakistan Army on social media.

Madiwala police have registered a suo motu case against Muneer and his younger brother Abdul Saleem for allegedly uploading a picture of a man in Pakistan Army uniform with a caption, “I stand with Pakistan Army” and a case of rioting against10 unidentified members that ransacked the shop on 4th Main Link Road, Madiwala Extension.

The door, showcase and signboard of the bakery were completely damaged. Muneer and Saleem are from Kollam in Kerala.

4. MLA Ganesh who Assaulted MLA Anand Singh Seeks Bail Citing ill-health

Karnataka Congress MLA JN Ganesh, who was arrested on 20 February on charges of attempting to murder his colleague MLA Anand Singh, was shifted to a hospital based on a medical report after he complained of hernia and kidney stones. The New Indian Express reported that Ganesh has been admitted to the government-run Victoria Hospital in the city from the Bengaluru Central Prisons in Parappana Agrahara in Bengaluru. His ward has been guarded by the City Armed Reserve police.

Meanwhile, the Kampli MLA on Saturday, 2 March, approached the special court for people’s representatives in Bengaluru to seek bail. Hearing the petition, special judge Ramachandra D Huddar issued a notice to Bidadi police, directing them to file objections, reported The Times of India.

5. Free Wi-Fi at 17 Stations on B’luru-Mysuru Rail Corridor

Passengers travelling by train between Bengaluru and Mysuru can now access uninterrupted free Wi-Fi.

RailTel Corporation of India has turned 17 railways stations in this section into free Wi-Fi zones, said South Western Railway officials on Sunday, 3 March. The 17 stations are: KSR Bengaluru City, Kengeri, Bidadi, Ramanagaram, Channapatna, Maddur, Mandya, Srirangapatna, Mysuru, Nayandahalla, Hejjala, Settihalli, Hanakere, Yeliyur, Byadarahall, Pandavapura and Nagenahalli.

“Wi-Fi services to passengers are being provided under ‘RailWire’— the retail broadband initiative of Rail-Tel,” said an SWR press release. “Designed to offer users the best internet experience, RailWire Wi-Fi will be available to any user who has a smartphone with working mobile connection,” it added.
