1. Siddaramaiah Has Made up His Mind to Bring down HDK Govt: DV Sadananda Gowda

Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda claimed on Tuesday, 28 August, that former chief minister Siddaramaiah had decided to bring down the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in the state and it would last merely another fortnight or a month.

Speaking to reporters, he alleged that Siddaramaiah had reluctantly agreed to the Congress joining hands with the JD(S) to form the government under pressure from senior leaders of the party. And now had made up his mind to pull it down in a few days.

“The coalition government in Karnataka will collapse within 15 days to a month," he declared. “Siddaramaiah is daydreaming of becoming chief minister again although with the number of MLAs that the Congress has presently, he cannot hope to and the BJP too will never support him," he said.

Claiming that a number of problems have come up in issuing Transferable Development Rights (TDR) in the city, a few corporators have urged the BBMP to retain the authority to issue TDR certificates.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is currently issuing TDRs for property owners. A debate must be initiated with the state government to resolve the issue permanently. Govind Raj Nagar corporator Umesh Shetty said about 136 houses in the ward do not have an approach road and the BBMP had decided to widen the road many years ago.

He said 216 roads in the area need to be widened, Shetty pointed out, saying: “Yet, it is stuck as some property owners have not agreed to take TDR.”

The city is on a mission to ensure minimal use of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in Ganesha idols for this Ganesha Chaturthi.

The BBMP is leading the charge with raids and warnings. “These are sensitive religious issues. We cannot penalise the shop owners selling PoP idols, but we have raided and closed down the shops and warned people against selling and buying PoP Ganeshas. All the immersions should either be done in artificial ponds or in Kalyanis, from where we will pick up the idols.
