1. State, Police Join Hands to Tackle Drug Menace

The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and the Home minister G Parameshwara has now directed all the educational institutions in the city to cooperate with Bengaluru Police officials in nabbing the drug peddlers. He also issued a strict warning to students and said that they will be caught and booked under Goonda Act if they indulge in drugs.

In order to discuss and address the issue of drug menace in the city, the Bengaluru City Police held a meeting with educational institutions on Monday. Management representatives from several schools and colleges narrated their experiences of how working with the police helped them deal successfully with the drug menace in and around their educational institutions.

2. BBMP Relief for ‘B Khatha’ Holders

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is planning to issue ‘A’ khatha certificates for property owners who have been keeping ‘B’ khatha for decades.

According to a source, BBMP officials might hold a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister before taking the final decision.

The move comes comes after corporators on Monday, 27 August, said property owners possessing ‘B’ Khatha certificates find it difficult to get approval for their construction activities.

BBMP Chief N Manjunatha Prasad said, “Many property owners with ‘B’ khatha certificates for their lands have been facing many problems in getting assistance. It’s learnt banks too don’t lend loans to ‘B’ khatha owners. A meeting will be held with Deputy CM to discuss the matter and we will soon take decision in the matter,” he said.

3. Bengaluru to Host Seminar on Impact of Democratic Decentralisation

The Centre for Decentralisation and Development (CDD) at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bengaluru is organising a seminar on “Twenty Five Years of Decentralised Governance in India: Status, Issues and the Way Forward.” The seminar will critically examine the progress that decentralised governance made since then and the impact of democratic decentralisation on development outcomes.

The seminar, to be held from 28-30 August, will discuss Karnataka’s contribution to the progress of decentralised governance in India from the times of Ramakrishna Hegde and Abdul Nazeer Sab.

4. Ola Driver Played Porn Video in Cab: Bengaluru Woman

A 22-year-old woman has accused an Ola cab driver of misbehaving with her by playing a porn video on his mobile and masturbating when she was in the cab. She was travelling from Yelahanka New Town to JP Nagar on Thursday morning.

Cubbon Park police registered a case of sexual harassment on Saturday based on a complaint filed by woman, a firm employee. The driver has been identified as Devasamoliya.

5. Bengaluru-Based Solo Trekker Goes Missing in Kinnaur

A solo trekker from Bengaluru, Karnataka, has gone missing in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

The last known location of 44-year-old Sathyanaryan Venkatachari was in Wangtu on 25 July. After no contact with him for over a month, his family filed an online missing report with the Kinnaur police on 24 August.

Missing trekker’s wife Anuradha and family friend Kishor Reddy reached Kinnaur on Sunday and met superitendent of police (SP) Sakshi Verma. “He last called on July 25 and since then, there is no trace of him,” said Anuradha, adding that he was supposed to return home on 22 August.
