Autorickshaw Fares in Delhi Could Go Up to Rs 9.15/km: Report
The fares of autorickshaws in Delhi are likely to be increased by 14.3 percent, according to a media report.
The fares of autorickshaws in Delhi are likely to be increased by 14.3 percent, a Hindustan Times report said, citing a report submitted by a fare revision committee to the Delhi government.
The autorickshaw fares could go up to Rs 9.15 per kilometre as against the existing Rs 8 per kilometre, if the suggestions given by committee are implemented, the report said. However, there will be no change in the flat rate of Rs 25 charged for the first two kilometres.
The 11-member committee was appointed by the Delhi government in November last year.
“As per the formula used initially, we had estimated an increase of 50 paise per kilometre. But, later the committee agreed that auto drivers should be brought under the category of ‘skilled labour’. So, to include their wage earning, the rate was finally set at Rs 9.15 per kilometre. At present, TSR drivers are considered unskilled,” the report cited a member of the committee as saying.
According to the report, state transport minister Kailash Gahlot will review the recommendations made by the committee, after which a decision on final rates would be made.
