Days after a Muslim man was thrashed and force-fed pork for allegedly selling beef in a local market in Assam’s Biswanath, local police said they have arrested eight people in connection with the case, as per The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the Director General of Police to take strict action against the perpetrators so that no such incident happens again in the future.

Sonowal told The Indian Express,

“We will not spare anyone responsible for this incident. This is a secular nation. The principle of secularism will be strictly maintained.”

In a video that surfaced on Facebook last week, 48-year-old Shaukat Ali can be seen being thrashed by a group of men for allegedly selling cooked beef in a market place.

In the videos, Shaukat Ali is seen being asked if he was a Bangladeshi, if he has licence and if he had an NRC certificate. In a second video, the mob is forcing Shaukat to eat from a packet, which they claim contained pork meat.
