India is celebrating the Armed Forces Flag Day today, 7 December.

The country has been observing the Armed Forces Flag Day every year since 1949 to honour the martyrs as well as men and women in uniform, who valiantly fight on our borders to safeguard the nation’s honour.

The occasion serves as a reminder to the Indian citizens of their obligation towards veterans, war widows and dependents of those who have sacrificed their lives for the safety and integrity of the country.

The government has set up ‘Armed forces Flag Day Fund’ (AFFDF) for the welfare and rehabilitation of the Ex-Servicemen (ESM) community. The donations received for the AFFDF are utilised to fulfil the basic sustenance needs of the ESM community through a medium of welfare schemes.

This year, the Ministry of Defence has planned a programme from 1 November to 31 December, to commemorate the Indian Armed Forces.
