Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath ordered an inquiry on Wednesday, 16 October, after an image of ants crawling over the eyes of a dead man in a Shivpuri district government hospital went viral on social media.

Five doctors, including a surgeon, have been suspended over the incident so far.

Kamal Nath, in a tweet, said such incidents put humanity to shame and should not be tolerated.

Balchandra Lodhi, 50, was a patient of tuberculosis and was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning.

He reportedly died after five hours. Other patients in the ward informed doctors but the staff allegedly left the body lying in the same place despite having the information at 8:30 am, ANI reported.

A doctor on duty also completed his rounds at the ward around 10 am but neglected the dead patient. The ants were later removed by the deceased's wife, Ramshri Lodhi, while he was lying dead on the hospital bed.
