Festivals are as much as about celebrating and spreading joy as they are about giving back to society, and who knows this better than Amazon India? The online retail major concluded its 25-day #AmazonFestiveYatra on 10 Oct in Bengaluru. The House On Wheels showcased the best of Indian products made by start-ups, women entrepreneurs and artisans from across the country. The Yatra started in Delhi and culminated in Bengaluru.

After the #AmazonFestiveYatra ended, all the products on display were donated to the Akshaya Patra Foundation to support the cause of the girl child.

Around 600 products worth over Rs 10 lakhs made by small & medium businesses and micro entrepreneurs were part of the donation. These products included traditional handicrafts from artisans, weavers and tribal communities across India.

As much as this initiative was about empowering the girl child it was also about the celebrating the entrepreneurial diversity of India.

The #AmazonFestiveYatra traversing 6000 kms across 9 states and 13 cities in 25 days was a celebration of this ecosystem, to showcase how we are bringing the best of India to our customers this festive season.”

In addition to the donation, some of the products from the #AmazonFestiveYatra were auctioned to raise funds for the cause of the girl child.

The grocery products that were donated will be used in Akshaya Patra’s kitchens across India. The rest of the products will be auctioned among employees and donors of Akshaya Patra to raise additional funds for mid-day meal programs in girl’s schools and other initiatives dedicated to empowering the girl child.

Speaking about their association with Amazon India, Shridhar Venkat, CEO, The Akshaya Patra Foundation said, “The work we do is made possible by the support of well-wishers and donors. Amazon has been a generous and thoughtful partner, using its scale and reach across the country to contribute in a meaningful and impactful manner.”

Amazon has been closely working with Akshaya Patra since 2017-18, and the #AmazonFestiveYatra only strengthens this association. This initiative will go a long way in empowering girl children and making them independent.
