A Nearly Unrecognisable Chhagan Bhujbal Battles Illness in Jail
NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal is housed in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail for his involvement in Kalina land grabbing case.
The once powerful politician was on Monday seen at St George hospital in South Mumbai, looking frail and dishevelled. He was in a wheelchair, waiting for his appointment for a dental check-up and certainly looked very unlike his appearance during days in power.
The Times of India’s Marathi publication Maharashtra Times has reported that Bhujbal has lost nearly 10 kg and suffers from diabetes and hypertension.
PTI reports that on 18 April he had been admitted to the ICU in South Mumbai after he complained of severe chest pain and high blood pressure.
Bhujbal was shifted to the government-run hospital reportedly from Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail where he has been lodged after his arrest last month under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The former PWD minister and his nephew and former MP Samir Bhujbal are in judicial custody till 27 April.
The Enforcement Directorate had filed two FIRs against Bhujbal, his son and nephew among others under PMLA, based on Mumbai Police FIRs, to probe the Delhi-based Maharashtra Sadan construction scam and the Kalina land grabbing case.
