Two men allegedly gangraped a 26-year-old woman in a moving car, after they flung her three-year-old child out of the vehicle on Monday evening.

The incident occurred on the Delhi-Dehradun national highway. The villagers rushed the child to a nearby hospital, and the three-year-old is now out of danger.

Superintendent of Police (city) Ombir Singh said that the woman was dropped from the car in the Chapar area on the same highway, adding that a case against the absconding accused has been registered. The woman was sent for a medical examination, Singh said.

In her complaint, the rape-survivor said that she was called by one of the accused, RK Mehta, on the pretext of offering her a job. Mehata and his friend first gave her some alcoholic drink laced with drugs. The two men then proceeded to rape her.

She lodged the complaint after she regained consciousness, Omir Singh said.

A series of recent attacks on women, particularly the gruesome gangrape of an eight-year-old girl from the nomadic community in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, and another rape case of a Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao had sparked protests around the country.
