A bus carrying around 40 people fell into a gorge in the Namli town of Ratlam district in Madhya Pradesh on Friday morning. Thirteen people were reportedly killed and several injured in the incident.

Ratlam's Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Choube said that nearly 13 people were pulled out from the bus in injured condition and referred to nearby hospitals.

The bus was travelling to Mandsaur when the mishap took place.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was moving at a very high speed when suddenly it overturned and fell into the gorge filled with water. Prima facie, the speeding bus fell into the pit after its steering failed and the driver lost control of the vehicle, the ASP said.

Efforts are on to pull the bus out with the help of local residents. Senior officials have rushed to the spot and further details are awaited.
