Seven people were injured in an IED blast in Meghalaya’s Williamnagar town. Two of the injured are in a critical condition, according to DGP Rajiv Mehta.

Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) is suspected to be behind the blast.

Williamnagar is the headquarters of East Garo Hills district.

In the past six months counter-insurgency operations against militant outfits in Garo Hills have forced several GNLA rebels to surrender, The Assam Tribune reports.

GNLA was formed in 2009 for the purpose of fighting for a ‘sovereign Garoland’ in the Western areas of Meghalaya.

More details are awaited.
