  • Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, one of the main accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case has been denied bail by a special court in Mumbai on Tuesday. She has been given a clean chit by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) just last month, as they did not find sufficient evidence against her.

  • The NIA had however not opposed the bail plea as they left it to the court to decide on the final verdict, given the material available on record. Syed Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Malegaon, lost his son Bilal in the blast and opposed the bail plea through Advocate Khan Abdul Wahab and Shaikh Sharif Ahmed.

  • They maintained that the NIA carried out further investigation into the case, not a re-investigation. The Anti-Terror Squad had collected concrete evidence and material so they could not say there was no evidence against the accused, they added.
