The HRD ministry’s report done by its fact-finding panel slammed the Hyderabad University for its ‘flawed’ finding in the Rohith Vemula suicide case, as reported by The Economic Times. Five students of Ambedkar Student Association (ASA) were expelled following the varsity report.

The HRD ministry report not only highlighted the presence of “academic demoralisation and social isolation” on campus which was not tackled properly by the university, but also talked about several gaps in the university report.

Among the gaps, were the report done by the Proctorial Board (which maintains the discipline in a university campus) around the 3/4 August 2015, and a report by a senior medical officer cited by an ABVP member who claimed to have been assaulted by the now expelled ASA students.

The subcommittee of the Executive Council (EC) also faces the ire of the HRD ministry’s report. Apart from these, the ministry’s report mentioned that Appa Rao Podile, the Hyderabad University Vice-Chancellor did not face any pressure from the HRD ministry. The university is not talking to the students about discrimination being present in the campus has also escalated the issue.
