Raj Woman Commission Member Quits After Selfie with Rape Survivor

The National Commission for Women summoned state commission chief Suman Sharma and demanded an explanation.

  • The Rajasthan State Commission for Women member Somya Gurjar, who took a selfie with an alleged rape survivor, resigned on Thursday. She along with the Chief Suman Sharma had been summoned by the National Commission for Women, demanding an explanation.

  • On Wednesday, Gurjar took the selfie which featured the chairperson and the rape survivor. The photo was circulated via WhatsApp. Sharma said she was talking to the survivor when Gurjar took the photo.

  • Gurjar said the photo wasn’t for entertainment. She said they were photographing her tattoo for the probe and the woman asked her photo be taken. Gurjar maintained that nothing about the probe was circulated on social media.
