Printmaker's exhibited art says life is balancing act
Printmaker Jaskanwal
New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) For printmaker Jaskanwal, life is a balancing act of soft and harsh emotions, and so is her art. In her latest exhibition, which celebrates three decades of printmaking and her retirement as a fine arts professor, the artist displays 50 prints that visualize an important message on feelings.
Titled 'Introspection', the current exhibition is a cache of 50 selected works that bear evidence of the three decades spent by her, in the practice of printmaking. It is open at the Triveni Kala Sangam here till May 24.
The 60-year-old artist uses ‘muted' colours, dominated by earth-brown, dusky yellow and a grey-blue tinge, arranged in solid formations that resemble a rock solid contour.
However, she differentiates the hues she uses in her prints, based on their emotional reflection.
"The soft emotions are represented by gradations and soft colours. But, often we also encounter harsh words on our souls that leave a definite mark. I've used texture to show those harsh emotions," Jaskanwal told IANS here.
Through varied inks and metal plates she uses for making prints, the former professor stresses the importance of a balance between emotions in life.
