Month After Alleged Gangrape, Girl Kills Herself in Delhi
Her suicide note claimed that her family was being pressured by the accused and his family for a settlement.
A 22-year-old woman who was allegedly gangraped by a 24-year-old man and his friend in May, committed suicide at her Harsh Vihar in northeast Delhi on Monday.
The woman left a suicide note claiming that her family was being pressured by the accused’s family for an out-of-court settlement, the police revealed.
The police said an FIR had been lodged in May after the woman alleged that she was raped by her friend who promised to marry her. The accused have been arrested and are in judicial custody, reports The Times of India.
According to the girl’s family, she suffered from depression after the crime. Sources, however, paint a different picture. They say the deceased had eloped with her friend. When her family came to know about the relationship, they approached the police and got the youth booked for rape and abduction.
The woman alleged that one of his friends had also raped her, said a senior police officer. In the suicide note, the woman wrote that she was taking the step due to the shame and disgrace that she had brought upon her family. She also said her friend’s family had been pressuring for an out-of-court settlement, which she did not want.
