Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems determined to ramp up his presence in Bihar following opposition claims that the BJP had scaled back the number of rallies he was to address following the “perceived losses in the first two phases” of the Bihar election.

He will address election rallies in four strategically chosen constituencies.

1. Marhaura falls under the Saran Parliamentary constituency from where Lalu’s wife Rabri Devi lost to BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy in 2014. One can expect Modi to rake up Lalu’s unfulfilled promise of a locomotive factory and Nitish’s failed plan to revive sugar mills in the area.

2. Hajipur is Ram Vilas Paswan’s turf and the BJP would hope the Prime Minister’s presence will help put up a united front and consolidate the LJP vote bank.

3. Nalanda is considered to be Nitish terrain and the BJP is expected to harp on the lack of basic infrastructure in an area where the “oldest university in the world” resumed operations from a make-shift campus last year.

4. Sona falls in Patna’s rural Naubatpur block.

Fifty seats will go to vote on October 28 in the third phase of the Bihar elections. The result will be known on November 8.
