BJP said on 24 June that party MP from East Delhi Maheish Girri will “resign” if it is proved that he wrote any letter to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung regarding civic official MM Khan who was shot dead in May.

Khan, an estate officer of NDMC, was shot dead in Jamia Nagar on 16 May, a day before he was scheduled to pass the final order on the lease terms of a hotel which was functioning on a property leased out by the civic body.

Challenging AAP and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to produce the letter purportedly written by Girri, Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay said:

On behalf of Maheish Girri, I am saying he will resign if he wrote any letter.

Make Yourself a Co-Accused: Kejriwal to Jung

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been demanding that Girri be arrested in connection with the murder of NDMC official MM Khan. He even accused Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of protecting Girri and wrote a letter to him insisting that Jung make himself a “co-accused” in the case.

The AAP also sought an impartial probe into the entire episode, in which police arrested a hotelier for alleged links to the murder of Khan, who reportedly rejected a bribe to settle a case in the hotelier’s favour.

AAP leader Raghav Chadha said the hotelier, Ramesh Kakkar, wrote to Jung on 10 May complaining about Khan, saying he was acting in an “arbitrary, unjust and biased manner,” urging Jung to intervene.

Chadha alleged that Jung forwarded that letter to the NDMC with the remark: “Necessary action as per law be taken in the matter and action be reported to this office.”

On 11 May, Chadha said, Girri also wrote to the LG favouring the hotelier and demanded action against Khan.

The murder of an honest officer by a hotelier cannot happen without political patronage. Jung, Girri and Tanwar directly or indirectly helped the accused in getting political patronage.
Raghav Chaddha, Aam Aadmi Party leader

Jung’s office released a statement that said:

Everyone understands that the claims of the AAP are frivolous and therefore the attempt to draw political mileage from this tragedy is sad.

BJP Hits Back at Kejriwal

Delhi BJP also raised several questions over the alleged Rs 400 crore Delhi Jal Board tanker “scam” being probed by the Anti Corruption Branch, demanding Kejriwal’s “arrest”.

I had earlier demanded Kejriwal’s resignation. Now I demand Delhi Police arrest Kejriwal for an impartial probe into the tanker scam
Satish Upadhyay, Delhi BJP President

He asked why the government “sat over” the fact-finding committee report on the “scam” for “11 months” and allegedly continued payments to the company concerned for “17 months”.
