New Delhi, Feb 19 (IANS) The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved implementation of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II.
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The project comprises two corridors of with a total length of 28.254 km: Corridor 1 from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir (22.838 km) and Corridor 2 from GNLU to GIFT City (5.416 km). Total completion cost of Phase-II metro is estimated at Rs 5,384.17 crore.
The project will provide the much-needed additional public transport infrastructure to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
The second phase of metro rail project is aimed at streamlining the urban transportation system in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar -- which is stressed due to intensive developments, increase in the number of private vehicles and heavy construction in the city.
The project when completed will provide the people a safe, secure, reliable and comfortable public transport, said a government statement.
