15,364 Scientists Worldwide Issue Serious Environmental Caution
We know that we are already in the apocalyptic future, when scientists issue a second dire warning to humanity on its erring practices that is taking a toll on the environment.
In late 1992, 1700 scientists from around the world led by particle physicist and founder of Union of Concerned Scientists Henry Kendall had issued a manifesto which warned, “a great change in our stewardship of the Earth and the life on it is required if vast human misery is to be avoided.”
In 2017, 15,364 scientists have reissued the notice all over again noting the alarming trends of population growths and material consumption, The Washington Post reported. This year itself, the carbon emissions are slated to rise by 2 percent to 41 billion tonnes.
Fearing that the swelling population wasn’t heading towards a sustainable future with a sudden boom in population in the 90s, the scientists issued the first manifesto. This year, these scientists are urging citizens to take active roles in pushing its governments to take immediate action.
The manifesto also lays out suggestions ranging from managing water reserves to restoring native plantation as initial remedies for our ailing environment.
