Soon after 16-year-old environment activist Greta Thunberg addressed the United Nations Climate Action Summit on Monday, 23 September, a video of her staring with hostility at US President Donald Trump went viral.

Trump has in the past drawn international ire for calling climate change and related issues a “hoax” – a position he has continued to maintain.

The clip went viral on Twitter, with many, including Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo, calling out Trump for failing to address the issue. Ruffalo tweeted, stating that the US president did not have the “courage” to address a 16-year-old activist.

Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro took a dig at Trump, tweeting that “a lot of us can relate.”

‘Seems Like A Happy, Young Girl’

Trump reacted sarcastically to Thunberg’s impassioned speech in which she angrily blamed the adults in the room for inaction, saying that she looked like a “happy young girl looking forward to a bright wonderful future.”

Twitter went on to criticise him for his reaction to the Swedish teen activist’s call to action, demanding that world leaders and corporations take action against climate crisis.

From labelling Trump ‘troller-in-chief” to stating that it was “disgusting” to pick on a teenager, Twitter was filled with some colourful reactions.
