Donning a new role, former President Pranab Mukherjee delivered a lecture as visiting faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad on Tuesday, 18 September.
He spoke on ‘public policy for inclusive development' before students of the postgraduate programme in management, the flagship course of the premier business school.
Mukherjee will be taking 12 out of total 22 sessions on the course titled ‘Public Policy for Inclusive Development of India’, that would be taught at the JSW School of Public Policy within the IIM-A campus.
Mukherjee will also conduct lectures on Wednesday, 19 September and then on 8-9 October and 16-17 November. In his lectures, Mukherjee will present the theory and practice of the Constitutional provisions for socio-economic inclusion, and focus on policy interventions of financial inclusion. He will also articulate on the policy and institutional agenda for strengthening transformation of India.
Mukherjee in his first lecture at the premier B-School gave references of Vedas, Kautilya, Emperor Ashoka and the Gupta Dynasty. He also spoke at length on the Constitution, the Preamble, the role of Parliament, its quasi-federal structure, five-year plans, panchayat raj along with the impact of the British rule on the Indian economy and its aftermath in the wake of India’s independence.
“After presenting the theory and practice of the Constitutional provisions for socio-economic inclusion, he will focus on policy interventions for financial inclusion, and then articulate on the policy and institutional agenda for strengthening transformation of India,” the institute had earlier said. As part of the lecture series, the students will write short reports on various public policy issues, which will be presented to Mukherjee.
