COVID Restrictions Extended in Maha; 3.62 L New Cases in India

The Maharashtra government has extended the lockdown-like restrictions in the state till 7 am on 1 June. The earlier restrictions were in place till 15 May. Under the new order, any person entering the state by any mode of transport will have to carry a negative RT-PCR test report which will have to be issued upto a maximum of 48 hours before the time of entry into the state.

India on Thursday, 13 May, reported 3,62,727 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the country to 2,37,03,665. The death toll increased by 4,120 to 2,58,317.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are currently 37,10,525 active cases across the country, while 1,97,34,823 patients have been discharged, with 3,52,181 discharges reported in the last 24 hours.

Sputnik to Be Available in Market From Next Week: Health Min

Dr VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, announced that Sputnik vaccine will be available in the market from next week.

“Sputnik vaccine has arrived in India. I'm happy to say that we're hopeful that it'll be available in the market next week. We're hopeful that the sale of the limited supply that has come from there (Russia), will begin next week,” Paul said.

He added that 216 crore doses of vaccines will be manufactured in India between August-December – ‘for India and for Indians.’

“There should be no doubt that vaccine will be available for all as we move forward,” he added.
