MBBS and BDS aspirants can now apply for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2018. The online registration is set to start from Thursday, 7 February, on the official website of NEET 2018: cbseneet.nic.in, says an NDTV report.

NEET is conducted for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses in Medical/Dental courses in India.

According to the official notification, however, open school students will not be allowed to write NEET 2018.

So Are You Eligible?

In order for an aspirant to be eligible to write NEET 2018 the aspirant must have completed at least 17 years of age at the time of admission or on or before 31 December 2018, reported NDTV. The upper age limit is 25 years. However, candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and those entitled for reservation under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 will get a relaxation of 5 years.

Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Foreign Nationals can write the exam.

According to the NDTV report, the candidate must have passed individually in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and must have obtained a minimum of 50 percent in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying examination. For ST, ST and OBC candidates the minimum total required in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying examination is 40 percent.

The minimum total required in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying exam for candidates with benchmark disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 is 45 percent.

According to the NDTV report, two years of regular and continuous study of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology taken together shall be required at 10+2 level for all the candidates.

Aspirants writing their class XII exams in 2018 can also appear for the entrance exam provisionally and their admission will be subject to their fulfilling the conditions later, reported NDTV.

However, Private candidates or those who have passed 10+2 from Open Schools shall not be eligible. Neither will those who have studied Biology/Bio-technology as an Additional Subject at 10+2 level.

The states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are joining and contributing their MBBS/BDS seats for the allotment to candidates under 15 percent All India Quota, starting from the academic year 2018-19. Therefore, the candidates belonging to these states shall also be eligible for the 15 percent All India Quota seats.
