Is there any vacancy for mechanical engineering students in ISRO?
Ashutosh Patel
Send us your queries for some expert advice on eduqueries@thequint.com.

Dear Ashutosh,

A B.Tech degree in Aeronautical Engineering is ideal to get recruited at ISRO. However, B.Tech graduates in mechanical engineering, electronics engineering and computer science engineering also have good career prospects as a scientist at ISRO.

You will need to appear for and clear the ICRB (ISRO Central Recruitment Board) test and then subsequently clear an interview.

I’m a student from Madhya Pradesh. Last year, I cleared my class XII and scored 88.2%. I am interested in psychology. Could you please tell me the best colleges I could get admission at? I’ve looked at KJ Somaiya, Jai Hind, Fergusson College, Mithibai College but the cut-offs for non-Maharashtra domiciles are quite high. Could you recommend a list of colleges where I could apply and get admission?
Pratyush Prakash
Send us your queries for some expert advice on eduqueries@thequint.com.

Dear Pratyush,

The cut-offs in these colleges for 2017 admission year was 85%-95% in the first cut-off list. If you belong to the general category, it will go beyond 90%. In the subsequent lists (very unlikely, because the seats fill up fast), it may go down to 85%-82%.

Since you have dropped a year, some percentage may be deducted from your overall percentage (depends from college to college) to cater to the students who cleared class XII in 2018. Also, since you are not from Maharashtra domicile, your application will be considered at a later stage (since 85% seats are reserved to Maharashtra domicile students).

You still have a chance of getting through, but you might have to wait for the 2nd or 3rd cut-off lists. Alternatively, we suggest that you keep 2-3 courses handy, based on your interest and skill-set. Apply for other courses like sociology, political science etc., or any other course where the demand is low and supply is high.

I aspire to be a company secretary. Could you please explain the process of application?
Joseph Babu

Dear Joseph,

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) offers the Company Secretary (CS) course. It is a distance-learning course that was started to regulate the profession of a Company Secretary.

As part of your training, you will have to undergo different programmes and 15 months of practical training. The programmes include:

  • Foundation Programme
  • Executive Programme
  • Professional Programme
  • Management Training

You can pursue the CS course after Class 12 once you complete your graduation. Needless to say,  you will need to register for the Foundation Programme to complete the remaining programmes. Good luck!

Dear Sarthak,

First of all, admission to BBA will depend on your class XII marks.

If fee cap is an important factor, then we suggest that you try to get admission in government colleges.

Dear Shivam,

All the government universities like University of Delhi, University of Kolkata, University of Pune, University of Mumbai, University of Chennai etc, offer a two-year MA degree in Journalism and Mass Communications.

I want to enter politics. Which degree would help me with that?
Parth Sharma
Send us your queries for some expert advice on eduqueries@thequint.com.

Dear Parth,

There is no cutout course to join politics. It basically starts from your understanding of politics and what changes you would like to bring for the development of the country/ region.

Typically, we suggest that you start affiliating with various agendas of different political parties right from college. Participate in activities, do field work, so that you are able to grasp the problematic areas and work towards them.  Second, interact – with people, with party members. Third – choose a party that is in sync with your vision.

Studying political science or economics at the graduation level may help you understand root causes better. Having said that, we suggest that you focus on building a career first. You can always join politics at a later stage in your life.

I want to opt for MBBS. I pursued the science stream and cleared my 12th boards in 2016. I’m keen on a private college even if it’s outside India. Could you please suggest me some good colleges?
Ruhul Aminchhy
Send us your queries for some expert advice on eduqueries@thequint.com.

Dear Ruhul,

Did you appear for NEET in 2018? To go abroad to study medicine, you will need a NEET qualified score, using which you can get preliminary admission to medical colleges.

Philippines is the hottest destination to study medicine at present, because medical graduates from here can practice anywhere in the world after completing their course. And unlike Russia, China etc., you will not be required to give an exam in India (after you complete your MBBS course) to get a license to practice!

And the best part about studying medicine in Philippines is that you can complete your pre-med in affiliated colleges in India and complete the remaining four years of MBBS in Philippines!

I appeared for Class 12 exams under the UP Board. I am keen on pursuing a course in pharmacy because my dream is to open a medical store. I am willing to pursue D.Pharma from any college but want to know if D.Pharma will benefit me. After getting D.Pharma, can I get a license to open a medical store? What is best for me, D.Pharma or B.Pharma?
Suhail Ahmad

Dear Suhail,

We suggest you to go for Bachelors in Pharmacy (B. Pharma) course. Why? Because of the following reasons:

·   You need to be a qualified pharmacist to register your pharmacy.

·   You need to be a qualified pharmacist to obtain a pharmacy license (else, you will need to get in touch with someone who is willing to lend you his/her name against goodwill payment, which is not an ethical way to go about!).

·   To tie-up with doctors/hospitals, you will need to be well-educated in the field (else they may not agree to be affiliated with you).
